Ranch House
Texas, 2024
This ranch house utilizes an existing footprint of a working ranch building that keeps the existing steel structure. In order to make the space usable and livable, 2 separate comlpementary units are fitted out within the footprint. As a plan with equal sides, the form is completed using a cantilevered deck that directly addresses views of the existing tree line.
To better address circulation of the existing ranch, the existing front is demolished in favor of an outdoor kitchen. At the cross section of the outdoor kitchen and deck towards the trees is a drive through lane that allows a separation between vehicular access and pedestrian access.
The entire exterior of the building is clad in the aluminum standing seam roofing panel. This is a low cost option that gives a visual cohesion to the project. The panel can be painted in a uniform color (such as red) to give the project a color motif that may be repeated through the mullions, table tops, garage lift, furniture etc.
